I created LBW in 2006 after traveling to Thailand in 2005 and absolutely falling in love with it. Everything about Thailand just captured my imagination and I never wanted to leave. I have been traveling around the world ever since (10 years now) and I have learned and discovered so many amazing things. I believe my purpose in life is to encourage others to do the same. Traveling is such a rewarding experience that truly puts life into perspective and helps you really learn whats really important in life. I used to be the party guy that tried to always keep up to everyone on tour but after too many years or trying to keep my body finally had enough. I am now the sober guy making sure everything is running smoothly. I am still heavily involved in the day to day operations of the company and am always going around from tour to tour making sure we are providing the best experience for everyone. Im always looking for the next big challenge and love pushing myself to the limits. I love banana shakes, yoga, the gym and burning man! Whatever you do in life, make sure you are passionate about it and enjoy it. I hope LBW Travel can become one of the world’s leading tour companies, so I can show other people all the amazing things I have done and learned along my journey. If you dont love what you do then you are doing the wrong thing. Remember Life Before Work!!

When I first got the idea in my head to start travelling, Southeast Asia just made sense. At the age of 20 and having never even left Canada, I knew something needed to change. So I quit my job, packed my bags and headed out the door, I haven’t looked back since. When I reached Thailand I knew I had made the right decision. I am now completely hooked. Travel has become my life; I live for the day-to-day adventures, the feeling of unfamiliarity, and the challenge and resulting rewards of travel. I have spent much of my twenties living out of a backpack, feeling the free and nomadic lifestyle. I plan to pass on as much knowledge and experience to everyone I have the pleasure of touring with. The life lessons I have gained from traveling are something I can use in my every day life for as long as I live. Travelling teaches us how to act the way we are hard-wired to act, to interact with other human beings and just live life to the fullest. One thing I know is that to never have traveled would be to never have lived.

My first authentic travel adventure was in 2004 when I volunteered in Thailand. I was able to live with a family, experience local life and immerse myself in the culture. I will always attribute that time spent abroad to my love of travel. I realized that travelling is the most valuable form of education; it teaches us what we can’t learn from a textbook. The culture, the food, the adventure, the people; I fell in love with it all. I went back to Southeast Asia a couple years later to explore and this is where I unknowingly met the founder of Life Before Work Travel, Brady Hedlund. It wasn’t until years later that we would reconnect and remember that we’d previously met on the river in Vang Vieng, Laos. It’s a dream to be working with such a cool company that lets us show other people the rest of this wonderful world we live in. I always look forward to seeing smiles on the faces of our travellers and the excitement and joy in their eyes as we explore the unfamiliar lands and fall deeper in love with travel. I hope that you can join us on an unforgettable journey.
I started with LBW Travel back in 2008 working part time promoting tours while I finished my commerce degree. I didn’t know it then, but putting up posters in the hallways of my university was the beginning of something incredible and I couldn’t have imagined then where we would be now. Fast forward to the present & I am the Operations Manager at LBW and absolutely love it, because when it all boils down, basically my job is to create an experience for people that in most cases is making a dream come true for them & opening up their minds to a whole new world of possibilities. It is really special to witness and what I consider to be a great way to spend my time. LBW is expanding so quickly that no two days are ever the same & I couldn’t be happier to be part of such an amazing team. If you want to join us email me! We are always looking for new talent to join the family!

One of my fondest Brazilian travel memories would have to be my road trip up the coast of Bahia, in the North East of the country, in the summer time. This trip was made up of eating delicious Brazilian food with the warm and inviting locals, surfing in crystal clear water on the reefs that in the coast, attempting to climb a coconut tree and opening it with my bare hands, taking walks through the very-much alive tropical rain forest and ending up at white sand beaches without a person in sight, drinking our national drink caipirinhas along the way. It was a very nice escape from the big cities. This trip gave me a deeper appreciation of how amazing my country is and how large it is. It was a great combination of having time to myself with nature and enjoying the country with people I had just met. As cliché as it might sound: It’s not just the destination you travel to, it’s not just the destination you travel to, it’s who you experience it with that is just as special. As we say in Brazil, the trip was ‘Tudo Beleza’ which means ‘everything is good’.

My words (or anyone else’s, for that matter) can never even begin to describe what traveling can do for you. Traveling not only reveals a whole new world to your eyes, it allows you to discover more about yourself than you ever could have imagined possible. It thrusts you past your comfort zone, and truly urges you to open up your mind to the vast possibilities that surround you. Remaining in one place your entire life only allows you to see one side of yourself. Who wants to live their life wondering: “what more is out there for me?” GO feel what it’s like to wake up to the sound of the ocean. GO feel what it’s like to have an elephant wrap its trunk around you in a “hug.” GO feel what it’s like to party all night, and into the daylight, with thousands of people at Koh Phangan’s Full Moon Party. Just GO! Let traveling take you under its wing, open up your mind, and have the world surprise you with what it has to offer— “Feel Everything.”

Started with LBW in 2007. My name is Rong (Wrong). I grew up in southern Thailand in a village south of Krabi where I lived with my family. I make the most of everyday; if it’s raining, I will still have a smile on my face – I never let it ruin my day. I am always happy, there is no reason not to be happy. When I finished school, I went to college and took tourist information and hotel. After 3 years of school, I worked as a jungle guide for 3 months and took tourists to waterfalls and the hot springs. After I saved up enough money, I opened my own office for kayaking trips and tourist information. I had my business open for only 1 month when the 2004 Tsunami wiped out my office and I lost everything. While working as a bartender after that I met Brady and the rest is history. I love working for LBW because I always wanted to show people around my country and show them how easygoing everyone and everything is – If you never come, you never know. Welcome to real life. Welcome to Thailand, the land of smiles.

I did my first around the world trip when I was 18 and the rest is history. The one thing about traveling that people forget to mention is, its not just about the beautiful places that you visit, it’s the people that you meet along the way that will chance your life! The experiences, some good some bad, will make you wiser to situations that you might be put into later on in your traveling life. I’ve been living on and off Thailand for over 10 years. I wouldn’t have come back here over 25 times if I didn’t think the world of this place! All I need to say about Thailand that it is everything: beautiful mountains, amazing tropical islands, lots of culture and the people are just so friendly. The question is not, why should I come to Thailand? It’s why aren’t you here already?
Hometown: Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada
Favorite Activities: Traveling, meeting new people, finding new places, jungle trekking, rock climbing, and having drinks with old and new acquaintances- that’s when the stories start flow free. In 2013, after some soul searching, I gave everything I owned to charity that didn’t fit into my backpack and moved to Asia to live my passion for travel and the love I have of showing others what it is all about. While being on the LBW Team I have had the chance to sit on the nicest beaches, with the kindest souls, and the most adventurous travelers in the world. It has opened my eyes and stolen my heart. I will never forget the steps in my life that have brought me here. The only regret you’ll have about traveling is that you couldn’t stay longer! “If you want to experience something you have never done, you’ll need to go place you’ve never been!”

Simply, I am a people person. Although, this is ultimately why I enjoy being the client services manager for LBW, there are some other reasons as well. I love that I get to be a part of sending people on great trips that change their lives like it did to mine. I’m so happy to help open up and share the world with so many different people from so many different places. GO LBW! I have to say that my favorite travel memory was my tour to Thailand. There were just so many “firsts” for me and since I was 18 and fresh out of high school, it was a great way to introduce myself to this giant, crazy and wonderful world! I got to meet so many cool people from all over the world and it was easier to make friends there than it is back home. I loved that the most. Everyone had their own story to tell and their own journey that they were on. I wanted to extend my stay in Thailand but instead vowed that I would be back one day! I cannot wait to explore more countries and cultures in the years to come. Life before Work is more than a name; it’s a lifestyle that I intend on maintaining for many years.
I took my first big leap into the travelling world when I went to Thailand with LBW, right after finishing my first year of university. I was still only 18 and had just one thing on my mind—let’s party. And party we did, of course, but to my surprise I came home with much more than just a 45 day’s worth hangover. I came home with a happy heart knowing that I now had new friends located in all corners of the world and an eager mindset to go see more of what the world has to offer. I feel privileged to have met such incredible people and learn their stories, and to have gained a lifetime of knowledge of who I am, and who I’d like to be. I learned more about myself in those short six weeks than I had in my entire 18 years of being motionless in the same city, and that is a feeling that can't be replaced by anything other than travelling. You might not realize it at the time, but you are the best version of yourself when you are in a new place with new people, and that is one of the main reasons why I love being part of the LBW Team. In some way or another, every person on the team is doing their part to make sure thousands of people get to experience what I did by taking that initial leap and catching the travel bug. If I can say I have played a role in helping people take that first plunge, than I am one happy soul!
Rewind to 2013… I was nineteen and extremely confused, not sure if I was ready to dedicate my early twenties to university or a career. In dire need of a change, I decided to book a last minute trip to Thailand with Life Before Work. It ended up being the trip of a lifetime! I was no longer confused, I just needed a change of perspective. Traveling gave me that eye opening change of perspective I desperately needed. Life Before Work completely changed my life and I am so grateful to be a part of this company, to be a part of this family. This company and my experience with them inspired me to be a better human being and to start living life to the fullest! Come travel with us, I know we can inspire you too. It's time to be brave enough to live creatively. Follow your passions wherever they may lead you (life’s an adventure after all). Step outside of your comfort zone and start living for today. It’s time to seek opportunity, not security. And don’t be afraid to go out on a limb, that’s where the fruit is ;) So start creating the life you want in this moment, right now. Start taking action in the present moment, change starts with you! Perhaps it’s time to come on an adventure of a lifetime and find yourself. You won’t regret it! Love and light xx
I have always been passionate about traveling and even more so about music. Life Before Work Travel has allowed me to fuse both of these awesome worlds into one amazing life journey. I started with LBW 6 years ago while covering a last minute DJ gig for my best friend DJ Tyco and then meeting Brady Hedlund for the first time and deciding right there and then that I wanted to work with Life Before Work Travel for the rest of my life. Since then I have eventually left all my other full time jobs behind me while increasing my responsibilities for Life Before Work. I am now thier full time Event Manager helping plan and cordinate some of the most challenging logistical operations in some of the most exciting places on Earth! Well, & of course I am still their full time Resident DJ helping to shake bootys all across the planet!
I went on my very first trip when I was 13 years old with my grandparents to Guyana. We went for a family wedding and that trip changed my life forever. One of the most memorable travel memories I have is being flown down to NYC earlier this year to make a hula hoop music video. It was one of the coolest expirences I've ever had beacuse it was my first time travelling alone and also my first time being on the set of a music video. I got to meet a ton of different people and they all had such awesome advice for me. I'm extremely dedicated to my passion and although you don't hear of a "proffessional hula hooper" very often thats something I aspire to be. I was working for social services for about a year when I found this job at LBW and it was one of the best choices I have ever made. I can't wait to see what my future holds and I'm really happy to be part of the LBW family.

I have always wanted to travel and see the world and got my first taste of that when I packed up and moved to Mexico to do a diver master internship and was hooked on traveling after that!! A year later I than came to Thailand for the first time in May 2014 on a 6 week LBW Tour and realized I needed to stay here. I loved the water, the people, the culture and of course the food! Who doesn't love food? especially a good cheese burger! The best thing you can do is book a one way ticket and never look back, or get a tan and loose your dignity! something like that.
Hello travellers, I'm Meghan! I did a thailand tour followed by lbw's first ever Bali tour where Brady offered me a job as a leader. Didn't take long for me to say yes. I love good street food, exploring new places, and all the amazing people I get to make friends with. Hope to see you on tour in the future, life's too short to not spend time getting lost.

In 2010, I left my small-town life and spent all but $7 of my bank account to go on my first adventure abroad to Europe…I may have returned home broke, but I had something more valuable, a new perspective on life. Traveling, experiencing new cultures and meeting people from around the world had changed my life in a way that made every dollar spent worth it. It made such an impact that I packed up my life, moved 2500+ miles from home to California, and became determined to see every corner of this world, and encourage others to do the same. Five years later, I’ve never looked back, and am fortunate enough to now design from all around the world. Seeing what lies outside the borders of my country has been the most rewarding opportunity in my life, and certainly the best inspiration for me creatively. LBW has allowed me to combine my two passions, traveling and design, and if I can inspire anyone to travel, then I’ll consider my job a success. Take a chance, book a ticket, keep an open mind, and see what’s out there…I promise the journey will be worth it.
I dove into the travel world straight of out high school on a 6 month trip through New Zealand and Australia. I'll never forget the over whelming sensation that took over while walking off the plane, it was one of the best and most terrifying moments of my life. The adrenaline rush felt by so many unknowns ahead, "where am I going to sleep tonight?" "what on earth is this coin worth in Canadian dollars?" "can I drink the water here?" created a combination of emotions that cant quite be put into words. That feeling is a high that I have become absolutely addicted to, and is commonly referred to as the travel bug! Traveling provides a different kind of education that I believe is so important for everyone to have a chance to experience. It's opened my mind to an entirely different world filled with incredible people and endless possibilities and I can’t wait to continue exploring it! LBW makes this experience possible for so many people and I am truly grateful that I get to play a small role in making that happen.

While attending university, I had the opportunity to complete a semester on exchange in Australia. This would be my first solo trip abroad, my first taste of long-term travel, and ultimately, the trip that would change everything. The travel bug took a huge bite. Six continents and years later, the adventure continues, and my camera has been with me every step of the way...
Working with LBW has allowed me to combine my two greatest passions: travel and photography. I thoroughly enjoy capturing the moments on tour so travelers can look back on their experiences. But more importantly, I hope my images inspire others to get out there and experience all that our amazing world has to offer.
When you travel, everyday brings new change. The people you interact with change, your environments change, your modes of transportation change... and the longer you travel, the deeper these changes will go.
And time is simply a measure of change. (Think about it, if we all stopped moving, if the earth stopped rotating, would time still pass?)
This is exactly why a couple months, a couple of weeks even, on the road, may seem like years in hindsight. If you fill your life with change, you will feel as if you’ve lived a longer and more fulfilled life. And there is no better way to do this than to travel! Break the mold and try it out, I promise it'll last a lifetime!
My first big backpacking trip was to Central America in 2012. I went there for a vacation and little did I know it would be the beginning of the rest of my life. Sitting on a surfboard at sunset amongst white sand beaches and palm trees, I realized that I wanted something more from life than just working a 40 hour/week job and living for the weekends. Shortly after that, I joined an LBW tour where I met more like-minded people that helped further inspire me into living the life I dream of, rather than the same old cookie cutter lifestyle. I began to make travel my main priority, hitting 8 countries over the next two years, and eventually became a guide with LBW. I am so stoked to be part of such an amazing team, and my goal as a guide is to help inspire you to live your dream life as well, whatever it may be. Travel has taught me so much about the world, other cultures, and living life to the fullest.. but most importantly it has taught me so much about myself, and I know it can do the same for you. Say yes to adventure, hop on an LBW tour, and see where it will take you!
My name is Puukii. I live in a small town just outside Bangkok called NaKhonPatom. I have lived there for my whole life and I graduated from a local university, majoring in Tourism Industry, which took three and a half years to complete. While I was studying, we went on so many trips travelling around Thailand and it made me become a lover of travelling. Whenever I had some free time from university, I always packed my bag and went off travelling, both on my own and with friends. I’ve now been working as a tour guide for almost 6 years. My first tour ever was for a Thai travel agency, and I didn’t understand why they would come on a 3 day vacation. They'd wake up really early and go to bed so late when most of them wouldn’t have to wake up that early and stay that late when they are at work. I decided to quit my first job then go down to Koh phangan to work as a receptionist but only a few months because I always knew this is not what I want to do with my life. After meeting some of the LBW guides, Dan brought me to be part of LBW family and now it’s been over a year. LBW gives me so many chances to meet new people, share and exchange cultures and do so many things I always wanted to do and also changed me a lot to be a better person than I was. If you’re thinking of your next adventure, of a next life changing trip or for some time to take a rest and disappear, Thailand should be one of the best choice for you. They said “You don’t need magic to disappear, all you need is a destination” and I totally agreed with that!
Favorite activities : Travelling, eating, trekking, rock climbing, Thai Boxing training
Travel… Take the road less travelled. Pave your own way. It’s for the thrill and absolute love of it, nothing else. Travel is about living for the moment, turning strangers into friends, educating your body, mind and spirit, while creating everlasting memories. The only thing we don’t get back in this world is precious Time, so we better make the most of it!!
After my first LBW Thailand trip at 21 years old, I realized all the intrigue and potential this vast world could produce – there is so much to offer outside of the ordinary spaces we may call home. Travelling creates the chance to make your home anywhere you want!
Stop dreaming and start living I say. Growing up playing guitar and music, it is safe to say that music has the power to bring people from all walks of life together – “use two sticks to make it in the nature” – one of my favorite quotes from RHCP. It’s the feeling in which comes over your body when you hear a sound you enjoy…BASS. Travelling can have the same affect on you when you are living in the moment, seeing something you’ve only envisioned in your wildest dreams. Bringing people together for the best reasons possible is what LBW strives to do!
Life Before Work is more than just a name; it is our way of life. Why Not Live The Dream!
Hometown: East Java Indonesia - I've been living in Bali almost half of my life!
Favorite Activity: surfing, snorkelling, spearfishing, long boarding and singing :)
I think of myself as a very easy-going person and I love showing people my country and our lifestyle here. Over the last three years, LBW has given me opportunities to meet some of the most beautiful people I will ever know and show them my world. My ideal night is a long walk on the beach under a full moon, but I also enjoy getting to know future friends over drinks in very rich, chill atmospheres.
Hope to see you here one day.
Supandi Dewantoro (Petty)
I am a little wanderer at heart and I know firsthand how the prospect of traveling solo can be terrifying, but don’t let the fear of the unknown prevent you from getting out there and experiencing the world. To invest in travel is to invest in the sincerest form of education for life. If you were to die tomorrow, could you honestly say you’ve lived your life the way you wanted?
Travelling reveals depths of yourself that you never would’ve discovered otherwise- you face language barriers, your stomach wrestles with the local cuisine, there are insect bites in places where bugs should not be hanging out, but throughout it all when you step outside of your comfort zone beautiful things happen. Your comfortable, air-conditioned view of the world is tempered by experiencing less fortunate countries and you learn just how important the values of kindness, respect and generosity are.
Its your world.. Allow us to help you explore it.
Hey guys I'm Matty Moore aka The Rock Star! They call me the rock star because I'm always on a south east Asia tour dancing and partying hard with the most amazing people! Plus I'm known to kill it on karaoke night! My favourite activities are the most adventurous ones such as sunrise hikes to the top of Mount Batur Volcano, Cliff jumping a 15 meter rock in Halong Bay or white water rafting in Chiang Mai.
I've been working with Life Before Work for almost 2 years and they've been the best years of my life. It's so important to have a job that you can wake up everyday extremely happy and excited to make a difference in peoples lives! The best part of my job is seeing people break their comfort zones. Whether it's trying new foods, climbing to new heights or just as simple as getting more comfortable to meet new people.
Traveling has changed me forever and has taught me more about life than I ever knew. One experience I want to share is about taking a risk. After my first trip to Thailand with lbw I was faced with an opportunity to stay and become a tour guide with this amazing company! By accepting this opportunity I had to cancel a flight, quit two great jobs and of course the scariest one telling my mom I wasn't coming home. With just a little bit of money at the time it was a very scary and risky thing to do, but best thing i've ever done! I have now found my true passion and know which direction I want to guide my life. I feel that everyone that has found their true passion had taken a big risk at one point or another, so when your time comes TAKE YOUR SHOT!! "Follow your heart and it will lead to your dreams!!!" P.s. If you join a tour with me it comes with free dance lessons!!!
When I was 17, I took a trip to the Wadi Rum Valley in Jordan. For a scrappy young serial urban-dweller like myself (Edmonton is the smallest city I've ever called home!) the thought of drinking sweet tea in the middle of a barren desert wasn't exactly my vision of an exciting vacation. Our Bedouin tour guide must have sensed this, and as if to prove a point, made sure that I was riding shotgun during the most exhilarating jeep tour that followed, almost flipping over no less than 4 times over the valley's gorgeous 50 foot high sand dunes. This experience made me realize that no matter where you are in the world, no matter where you come from, the adventurous spirit will always find a way to break through. The only non-renewable resource we have at our disposal is time, and whatever your passion, it's up to each of us to maximize each of the seconds given to us on this beautiful planet. When I'm not at LBW convincing others to explore the world or planning my next getaway, you can find me in my workshop turning trees into skateboards.
My name's Krishlene and I've been lucky enough to be travelling since before I can actually remember. I have family in different parts of the world and it has always been amazing to go stay in Fiji or Australia or New Zealand with them for extended periods of time and learn about their culture. This is where my love of travel stems from. I just want to go learn about new places and find out peoples stories. This is also why LBW is such a great place for me to work, because on LBW tours this is exactly what I can do and what we encourage to all of our travellers! My travel goals include: seeing all 7 Wonder of the World (checked off 2 already!) and creating great memories and friends around the world. <3
I’ve vacationed a lot throughout my life, but never really, truly travelled; mostly beaches, big cities, and resorts. I wanted to try something different. My first trip on my own was with LBW on YachtLife Mediterranean, travelling on a yacht throughout the islands of Turkey and Greece. An unbelievable experience. Near the end of my trip, I was instantly changed and strongly developed the “travel bug.” This is what I wanted to do, travel and immerse myself in other peoples countries taking in their culture, food, and lifestyles. I felt like a new person, and realized travelling, truly travelling changes you. I fell in love with travelling and LBW, they are the ones who taught me how to really travel and changed my view of the world. Luckily, I was hired as a Client Services coordinator with LBW, and now help people organize their trips with us; the same ones that changed me as a person and made me fall in love with life. After YachtLife there was no looking back, this is how I want to live the rest of my life. Travelling, helping people travel, and travelling some more. Team LBW!
